A bit About Vitamin B…
The Vitamin B complex is made up of 8 essential vitamins which all play a crucial role in our health and wellbeing. They are water soluble, which means that we are not able to store them in the body and they are essential, meaning that the body is not able to make them and they must be obtained from the food that we eat.
Are You Getting Enough?
Unfortunately a staggering amount of us are simply not coming close to our daily share of these important nutrients. How do we know that we are not getting enough? Aside from having your blood work done by your health care practitioner, if you tend not to eat a lot of animal protein foods, dairy, leafy greens, legumes and seeds you may require more B vitamins in your life.
Fast paced lifestyles and high stress levels also put a demand on the body for more Vitamin B to support the endocrine system and the liver.
Our food has increasingly less nutrient content these days due to commercial farming and other factors that continue food nutrients from the soil.
With these factors and many more at play, it is safe to say that most of us could probably use some help getting more of this much needed vitamin complex.
We are all unique beings and our bodies all have different biochemical needs. Some of us will definitely require more Vitamin B support than others at different times in our lives.
Nervous System Support
The B Vitamins are a busy bunch – they are responsible for playing key roles in so many crucial bodily functions. For starters, they provide a huge amount of support to our nervous system. They help form nerve cells and are a requirement in neurotransmitter signaling (nerve cells talking to each other). As the communication center for your entire body, an imbalance in your nervous system will absolutely affect every other body system.
Stress and Anxiety
Vitamin B can play a role in helping ease symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. B Vitamins are involved with the manufacture of stress supportive hormones as they support the adrenal glands (an organ that helps you deal with all kinds of stressors).
B Vitamins are also involved in producing brain chemicals that affect mood and other brain functions; they are necessary for general proper brain function.
Energy
Vitamin B helps the body produce energy by fueling the mitochondria (give cells energy) and by supporting the healthy metabolism of carbohydrates and fats – so they’re additionally important in keeping a healthy weight.
B assists with red blood cell formation which helps to carry oxygen and nutrients to your cells (also directly related to energy levels).
Choosing a Vitamin B Supplement
At Nature’s Vibe we carry a variety of B Vitamins. One of our favorite formulas is Synergy B by CanPrev. Synergy B was formulated by a team of Naturopathic and Homeopathic Doctors and delivers the full spectrum of B vitamins in their most active and absorbable forms.
It also contains 200mg of L-Theanine which is an amino acid (building block of protein) that temporarily produces mental relaxation, without any sedating effects.
Another unique benefit provided by this formula is that it contains a blue-green algae called Spirulina that supplies a wonderfully rich source of phytonutrients.
If you think that you may not be getting enough B vitamins in your day-to-day diet and you are experiencing symptoms including (but not limited to): nervousness, headaches, rapid heartbeat, difficulty concentrating, cramps, fatigue, irritability, tingling in hands and feet, and nausea after meals – a B Supplement could be right for you.
