Because Is It Even Summer without Mosquitos?
It’s the most wonderful time of the year again in Southern Ontario…Summer!!!
You can find most of the population rejoicing and enjoying this long awaited weather from early morning into those summer nights. And what else you can find enjoying the summer lovin?
The Mosquitoes
This year they seem to be out with an increased vengeance and they are out for blood – our blood! And with insect-borne related illnesses on the rise, you’ll want to make sure that you, your family and your furry little friends are protected so that you can truly enjoy some fun in the sun.
Deet: A Questionable Past
So what is the deal with Deet anyways?
Deet sure has a scary reputation and, to be honest, rightfully so. While the jury is still officially out on a definitive answer surrounding the deet controversy and how it affects our health, it is safe to say that most of us choose to air on the side of caution.
Some research indicates that people who are sensitive may react to deet through means of skin irritations including: itching, swelling or rashes.
Other studies concluded that Deet may prevent the normal breakdown of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that has important functions including: muscle contraction, activating pain responses and endocrine system regulation.
Older research points to brain toxicity and seizures in children.
The bottom line is that all of these scattered studies (and research) continue to be up in the air as experts who study DEET express that there are no significant risks.
They do however claim that bad reactions may occur if the product is misused for example ingested or inhaled.
How Else Can we Protect Ourselves?
With vastly varying information and conclusions when it comes to DEET, it is completely understandable that a lot of health-conscious individuals choose not to chance adverse effects using products which contain this ingredient. However, with the growing risk of insect borne illness (not to mention the undesired feeling of being eaten alive and the itchy bites which follow), it is important to know that there are simple, natural and cost effective options available that are not only easy to use but safe for the entire family.
Natural Solutions at Nature’s Vibe
Our absolute go to favorite solutions here at Nature’s Vibe, involve a wonderful essential oil blend by doTerra. Before we go into the oil itself, let’s take a moment to talk about the importance of the quality of the essential oils you choose to use for you and your family.
There are a lot of different oil brands on the market and, like all products, not all are created equal. As with all health care products that you plan to use on (and in) your body, it is very important to have a reputable brand you can trust.
All doTERRA essential oils are certified pure therapeutic grade – which means that they are certified to have no added fillers, synthetic ingredients or harmful contaminants which would reduce their efficiency.
doTERRA puts all of their oils and packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf life and it is this protocol that ensures potency, purity and consistency batch-to-batch.
