Catherine Lauber, Mdiv, MA, RP
Registered Psychotherapist

Catherine’s passion has always been to find ways of using her gifts to help others. Early in her career she was drawn to working in business administration and human resources management. Although she felt like she was using many of her skills, she didn’t feel fulfilled in her job and felt pressures to fit into a system that “just did not fit me.”
Seven years later, in 2001, she was working for a financial services company and facing burnout. She was struggling to cope in a highly stressful, fast paced job and in her words, “I found myself trying to use the force of willpower alone, to push through some pretty serious health symptoms. I was tired all the time and I felt cranky, frustrated and overwhelmed. I could not concentrate on what I was doing and I lost my ability to plan and strategize (key components of my profession). Increased levels of anxiety, and then depression, were clear signs that my mental health needed a boost. But, I felt ashamed for being weak, and I was afraid that others would judge me and treat me differently if I asked for help.”
When the company she was working for needed to downsize, she accepted the buyout package that was offered, and started therapy the same week. After recovering from depression, by using a variety of holistic approaches, she was able to reflect on how to better utilize her gifts in her next career. She earned a Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California and a Master of Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Upon graduating she opened a counselling practice and has been working as a Psychotherapist ever since. Catherine feels that she is now able to combine both her business experience with her passion for helping others into a much more fulfilling career.
