What is Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a regulated health profession in Ontario and Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) have rights to perform certain controlled acts, which are regulated by the government.

One particularly interesting controlled act that NDs have the right to, is providing patients with a diagnosis, in particular a Naturopathic Diagnosis. NDs do follow the same principles used to diagnose that Medical Doctors use, with some expanded views of health. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including but not limited to: botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, Indigenous and Chinese medicines, Naturopathic Manipulation, Homeopathy, lifestyle counselling and health promotion and disease prevention. Understanding your Naturopathic Diagnosis will allow you to understand the cause of your health problems.

When you work with a Naturopathic Doctor, you will explore the causes of your health challenges, using evidence-based principles, blended with the wisdom of natural and alternative forms of medicine. Treatment is focused on the root causes of health problems, resulting in dramatic health improvement.

How can Naturopathy help me?

When the root cause of your health problem is identified, your Naturopathic Doctor can recommend specific remedies and supplements, lifestyle changes and diet strategies, to get you feeling better, fast.

Naturopathic Doctors focus on assessing, teaching and using the power of nature to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. So, if you don’t feel as good as you know you can, your Naturopathic Doctor can help you figure out why and suggest strategies to feel your best.

Naturopathy can help you with a variety of complaints including but not limited to:

  • Mood swings
  • Low energy
  • Digestive concerns
  • Feeling “hangry”
  • Weight gain

I am already seeing a practitioner, why should I try Naturopathy?

We are complex, dynamic beings that are continuously shifting and changing, and as such, we may require more than one form of support to better address our symptoms. Naturopathy supports other forms of treatment and works well alongside your current care plan, including but not limited to, conventional medicine, homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic care and nutritional support.

Taking care of your mind, emotions and body with the help of multiple modalities can help you on your journey to optimal health.
